Waste, Fraud and Abuse of $200 Million for the Maryland Healthcare Exchange
“Where’s the Audit?”
LAUREL, Maryland (August 20, 2014) – Jody Venkatesan candidate for State Senate in Maryland District 13, released the following statement this morning in regards to the waste, fraud and abuse of the $200 million for the Maryland Healthcare Exchange. “We need good government across the board. This election is about accountability in Annapolis. As an auditor, I would like to know where is the audit of the $200 million of tax dollars that were wasted on a failed implementation of the State Healthcare Exchange. As a veteran and professional auditor, my campaign is about citizens first that includes; women, children and families. Our environment and education should be priority #1. My opponent is working against our families by wasting hard earned tax dollars.”
“My opponent is in the Maryland House of Delegates and Chairs of the Joint Audit Committee. It is outrageous that my opponent did not ensure an independent audit was done to identify the failures of the Maryland Healthcare Exchange to find the waste fraud and abuse of Maryland tax money. We need good government for our families. $200 million is a lot of Maryland taxpayer money and families are working harder than ever. The waste, fraud and abuse of Maryland tax dollars is a cruel reality that was perpetrated against women, children and families. These are decent people who deserve better. It heartbreaking to know how hard families have to work and that my opponent wasted your money. Our families are being squeezed at every turn and my opponent just keeps smiling. Wasting your tax dollars puts families through unnecessary hardships. Our citizens deserve accountability for every penny. Then to add more pain on women, children and families my opponent uncaringly raised gas taxes and now even dares to tax your rain. It now costs families more to play soccer, go to work and go on vacation. Our citizens deserve better! Our kids and especially the most vulnerable in our society deserve better.

This fundraiser represents momentum in our campaign. We are excited about the support of Governor Allen. Our campaign based on a simple idea that “You Deserve Better” has caught fire in a regional way. People in District 13 are tired of their elected official not listening to them. I will demand accountability for every tax dollar that the people of District 13 pay. I will continue to share our message of; (1) priority access to Maryland four-year universities for our kids, (2) lower gas taxes and (3) to stop taxing the rain. We have a responsibility to serve women, children and families foremost and not to serve special interests. Our kids deserve better. Our kids deserve not to learn in trailers. As a veteran and auditor, I take these issues seriously and will work tirelessly to serve our community. We need elected officials who are committed to serve all of our citizens and who are not career politicians.”

STATEMENT ON THE CITIZENS WORKING TO FIX HOWARD COUNTY REFERENDUM RULING FROM THE COURT OF SPECIAL APPEALS
I am disappointed to learn yesterday that the Court of Special Appeals struck down the referendum effort by the Citizens Working to Fix Howard County. As a veteran and professional auditor, my campaign is about citizens first that includes; women, children and families. This is at the heart of who these petitioners are. They are good people trying to the best by to help our environment, children and schools. Our environment and education should be priority #1. The Citizens Working to Fix Howard County petition speaks to the root cause of overcrowding on our schools, poor roads and infrastructure.
